Arts and Crafty

Remember this picture? From this "currently" post?

I was trying out a technique that Chan told me about. Since it sounded messy, random and daring, I of course had to give it a go!

Pretty much you sprinkle a bunch of things on to a piece of paper, or a tag in my case.
These "things" are embossing powders, glitter, seed beads, these flake things that we just got in the store. Whatever you've got, just throw it on there.

Then you heat the bottom of the paper/tag. You must not forget to heat the bottom or else you will blow everything away. Very important.

Heat and heat and heat until all is melted together.
And voila!

I am making loads of these! I love them! My floor is covered in glitter!!

Also, this makes me realize I need to invest in some other colours of things. I have three shades of blue and green in everything. What happened to the rest of the rainbow, Lisa?

I am also combining this gluttonous crafting with a new project.

Some things that have happened recently have made me realize that life is too short to go without telling people you love them and treasure their presence in your life.

So I am doing a massive mail out of these special tags to all the people in my life that I couldn't live without.

I was so happy when I saw how many tags I needed to make...
(this is only the first batch)

p.s. This technique is featured on the TM Inspiration Blog today with some additional close ups of the other colour combos I used. Check it out!

Crafty Thursday

Time for Scrapbooking!

(Not that I will actually be scrapbooking today. By my calculations, this will post on June 23rd, and I'm pretty sure by that point I will be scrambling to prep for my Saturday classes...that reminds me...why aren't you signed up for my Saturday classes? I always promise lots of fun, and talk about strange topics, and happy full minds!)

Here are some photos I took of Lucas playing PVZ on my iPad awhile back. This game (+ Mom) taught him the word "obsessed." Now if only he could read it and spell it!

My Good Friend Kirsten has been reminding me (in a generic "I read her blog, so she must be speaking directly to me" sort of way) to use up some of my old/collecting dust scrapbooking supplies. So when I found these old Heidi Swapp photo corners lurking about the other day, I knew I had to find a permanent home for them. I did add some Distress Ink so they weren't so white.

Layout Deets: the products in green text are "oldies but goodies!"
Pattern paper/Cosmo Cricket & Simple Stories. Sticker label/My Mind's Eye. Photo corner/Heidi Swapp. Pattern tape/7Gypsies. Sticker letters/American Crafts (yellow) & My Little Shoebox (small black). Die cut shape/Tim Holtz for Sizzix. Yellow button/Such Sweet Tierney. Twine/My Mind's Eye. Rub on banner/Hambly (I think I own one of every colour now...). Sparkly brad/American Crafts. MY FAVOURITE EMBELLISHMENTS/Cosmo Cricket.

Technique Deets:
#1. I love the look of blending different coloured Distress Inks. That's what happened on top of the music note stamp. I used Peeled Paint (green), Wild Honey (orange) and Fired Brick (red). Remember to use an archival or other bleed-proof ink pad when stamping if you're going to add more wet media over top. The blending is easiest to achieve when you use a blending tool or foam applicator. Start at one end with your first colour. When you grab your first colour, start away from the first colour and blend into it. Do the same with the third colour. You could add more colours for a sweet rainbow effect!!

#2. I covered my old American Crafts Thickers in Glossy Accents. I wanted to visually mimic the "shiny" in my title, and the glossy coating gives these old (and glue-less) letters new life!! It's easiest to glue them on to your page, and then coat them in Glossy Accents.

#3. The chipboard shape underneath the title is made from a Tim Holtz die, and was actually a leftover from the Tag workshops TM did last winter. It was already covered with the green crackle paint. I added some inking to the surface to accentuate those cracks.

It's kind of ridiculous that my favourite embellishments are little die cut paper flowers, and the butterflies that came with, but it's the truth yo! I am almost done both packages I bought, so now I have to start either looking for more, or looking for a way to make them myself! I need to find a suitable printable...hmmm...

December 25, 2010

I never ever scrapbook my Christmas photos. First of all, I usually never take any pictures on or around the Christmas holidays. And Second, the ones I do take are usually all blurry and grainy and dark and terrible, and who wants to scrapbook those. Not me.

But this year, my mood has shifted. Don't ask me why. Perhaps I am getting soft in my "old age" HA! Maybe it's because there's a baby in the mix again (I did scrapbook Lucas' first Christmas, and this was Jacob's first). Whatever it is, I am embracing it while it lasts and getting all the layouts I can out of it before the feeling passes.
These photos were taken by Russel on Christmas Day at my Dad's house. I shoved the camera at him and said: "take some pictures". And he did. And I am so glad for it!
This started out as a very random page...one that I was un-inking my letter stamps on! HA! Then I used it to protect my work surface when I applying glitter to something else, so it got some random glitter on it. And the paint is random as well...and unrelated to this layout (at first).

I love the little bits of green stitching on the blue ribbon.
I love the swirly blue ribbon that meanders around the layout, like it has just been unwrapped.
I love the bits of rub-on lace showing through here and there.
I love the piece of pattern packing tape, tape that I can't find in my house anymore.
I love the shimmery acetate snowflake (alcohol ink and perfect pearls).
I love the tracks of my sewing machine.
I love that Russel took these pictures of me and some of my favourite people!

New App Anyone??

I was so stoked to be asked to contribute to the second release of the Sketches 2 Scrapbook app. And now that it is finally "for sale", I can post my layout here!
The photos were taken on Christmas morning.
I used some supplies that I never thought I would use! Glitter Alpha, Christmas paper!!
And then there are the typical Lisa supplies: the background is from an ATC swap (the cards that I never cut up), and the Hambly is too precious for words really!
I did that fun alcohol inking technique on a transparency, and it turned out so amazing!
Putting a little bit of metallic on there really makes all the difference.
Check out the full app...I bought the first one and I just love it!
I can't wait to try this one out!

For more info on the release, please check out the Sketches2Scrapbook site!
