Crafty Thursday

Time for Scrapbooking!

(Not that I will actually be scrapbooking today. By my calculations, this will post on June 23rd, and I'm pretty sure by that point I will be scrambling to prep for my Saturday classes...that reminds me...why aren't you signed up for my Saturday classes? I always promise lots of fun, and talk about strange topics, and happy full minds!)

Here are some photos I took of Lucas playing PVZ on my iPad awhile back. This game (+ Mom) taught him the word "obsessed." Now if only he could read it and spell it!

My Good Friend Kirsten has been reminding me (in a generic "I read her blog, so she must be speaking directly to me" sort of way) to use up some of my old/collecting dust scrapbooking supplies. So when I found these old Heidi Swapp photo corners lurking about the other day, I knew I had to find a permanent home for them. I did add some Distress Ink so they weren't so white.

Layout Deets: the products in green text are "oldies but goodies!"
Pattern paper/Cosmo Cricket & Simple Stories. Sticker label/My Mind's Eye. Photo corner/Heidi Swapp. Pattern tape/7Gypsies. Sticker letters/American Crafts (yellow) & My Little Shoebox (small black). Die cut shape/Tim Holtz for Sizzix. Yellow button/Such Sweet Tierney. Twine/My Mind's Eye. Rub on banner/Hambly (I think I own one of every colour now...). Sparkly brad/American Crafts. MY FAVOURITE EMBELLISHMENTS/Cosmo Cricket.

Technique Deets:
#1. I love the look of blending different coloured Distress Inks. That's what happened on top of the music note stamp. I used Peeled Paint (green), Wild Honey (orange) and Fired Brick (red). Remember to use an archival or other bleed-proof ink pad when stamping if you're going to add more wet media over top. The blending is easiest to achieve when you use a blending tool or foam applicator. Start at one end with your first colour. When you grab your first colour, start away from the first colour and blend into it. Do the same with the third colour. You could add more colours for a sweet rainbow effect!!

#2. I covered my old American Crafts Thickers in Glossy Accents. I wanted to visually mimic the "shiny" in my title, and the glossy coating gives these old (and glue-less) letters new life!! It's easiest to glue them on to your page, and then coat them in Glossy Accents.

#3. The chipboard shape underneath the title is made from a Tim Holtz die, and was actually a leftover from the Tag workshops TM did last winter. It was already covered with the green crackle paint. I added some inking to the surface to accentuate those cracks.

It's kind of ridiculous that my favourite embellishments are little die cut paper flowers, and the butterflies that came with, but it's the truth yo! I am almost done both packages I bought, so now I have to start either looking for more, or looking for a way to make them myself! I need to find a suitable printable...hmmm...
