Something Cool - Canyon of Fire

Oh NASA. I love you...

Here is the full Canyon of Fire write up. Will wonders never cease?

In other sky news, Comet ISON is getting brighter and brighter! And I've been watching for Venus and Jupiter every night. Look up people, look up. You'll be amazed at what you can see.

But don't look directly at the sun. Geeze man...

p.s. honestly Blogger, why do you keep doing this to my videos? First you're there, and then you've disappeared! Argh!

A New View

I will never ever get sick of seeing photos like this. Not ever.

We leave for Mexico in three days. I guess I should go pack or something.

Sunrise over the South Pacific

Insight into my soul #1: I would love to watch the sunrise one morning. Wake up early on purpose, and find somewhere lovely and quiet to sit, and enjoy some coffee and my thoughts.

In General

Tell people you love them. Spend time with those who matter. And don't forget to spend some time in awe at the fact that you found each other in the cosmos. -Carl Sagan.

I love Amy of Vanagon Champion, cause she always hooks me up with my Carl fix of the day.

Speaking of Carl Sagan, I was lucky/unlucky enough to be next in line to get my copy from the library last week. Lucky in that I've been waiting for these discs semi-patiently for many months. And unlucky in that I had zero interest in watching them this week! Thankfully I have one of those smarty-pants husbands. He promptly found some sort of made in heaven converter on his laptop and put all that content into iTunes for me. And I didn't even ask him to do it! So, he's my hero today! Yay Russel!

It's parade day people! 90% of our morning patients were late! Hooray!

My coffee date yesterday was kind of awesome. I got to have an IRL Blogger Meet Up. "Shut up!" you say. And I say, no way. Nicole is a fire cracker! Yippee!

And I have another coffee date planned for tonight with Mr. BFF. After a little market dinner with my Two Favourite Dudes.

And that's the kind of day it's been...

lately...

I have been sleeping a lot. Like...a lot! So I haven't been doing much else. Saturday was very productive, and warm, and wonderful. And then Sunday hit me like a tonne of bricks and I did a lot of napping and sitting around. And then Monday and Tuesday nights I was in bed by 8 o'clock! What the deuce!?!? Being back at work after the long break has really kicked my ass. I leave the house just after 7am, and I'm not back until after 5pm. Then I make dinner, eat dinner, clean up dinner, and then I am done. Oh man...am I ever done.

I got a Blogging award from a blog-friend the other day, and then promptly fell off the face of the world! Sorry peeps!

Here is an image of a spiral galaxy to keep you entertained until I get my ass in gear.

I have two coffee dates planned and pretty much planned this week, so I am hoping these get me back in a better mood and give me some inspiration to stay awake past the senior sleeping hour. When did I turn 80, again?

And I have been listening more and more to this podcast, and while it hasn't been helping me in the awake-asleep department, it keeps my drives to and fro work interesting. Thanks to BFF for recommending this.

On a side note: I don't understand why it's so hard to just do your own job and not worry about what everybody else is doing. Also, why are you asking for my input solving a problem in which I have no history, expertise, or knowledge? But in an area that you are kind of queen of. Geez louise! Also, I don't really need a running commentary of what you're doing or what you're planning on doing in the next fifteen minutes. I have enough shit on my desk to deal with, I don't need updates on yours. Thanks. End "editorial".

PSA Of the Week

This week it's all about space news...one of my most favourite subjects of all time!

A Star With NINE Planets!!

Big news right now is all the NASA Shuttles flying across the US to their new (museum) homes. Lots of really, really, really cool photos around the web!

Any news about dark matter is awesome!

This photo (and story) is kind of neat. The first launch at Cape Canaveral. Been there...done that!

Minivan-sized, asteroid fireball!?!?! How come we never get the cool things up here? Like, in Canada...

Speaking of Canada, here is some Space News from up north!

This guy is so smart, and funny, and relate-able, and amazing. I am trying to find more talks by him. It's just good stuff.

Out in the World

Here are some fun things that are happening out there in the world in the next little bit:

Total Lunar Eclipse on Saturday, December 10. Be up super early Saturday morning for a glimpse of the red, dog-bitten moon as it sets. In Edmonton we probably won't be able to see much past the full eclipse, but if you are tuning in from BC or Alaska, set your alarms! I'm going to try and get my arse out of bed to check it out. Anyone want to join me?? Or is that a no...

Look to the skies again on December 13, 14 and 15 as the Geminid meteor shower reaches its peak. Grab a blanket and head outside any time after 9pm. The moon will be bright those nights, so you won't see as many as you might in other years.

Locally, Metro Cinema has some great shows for us again this month, including Die Hard 2 showing on December 21st. And the Butterdome Craft Show is up and running this weekend. Super locally, TM is doing their Christmas Crop over the weekend, which means yours truly is putting in some time there.

I miss this blog I used to read, the edmontonian. They would always post a huge list of things going on around town. Now where am I supposed to get all my E-town news in one place!?!? Argh!

New Music: Thanks to Dan Destroyer for recommending the soundtrack for The Darjeeling Limited. I downloaded it before bed last night, and absolutely LOVE IT! Also, I was surprised by a song playing on the radio this morning. It seemed sort of out-of-character for the regular Sonic fare I hear on the way to work (or don't hear, cause I usually put it on XMU). Check out Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye. I am going to try and find it on the web to download later today.

Also, is it too ridiculous to buy myself a Christmas present? Just one. Maybe two. If I don't get a record player for Christmas I might just cry. Santa? I've been really good this year. Pretty please...

p.s. I have lots of post ideas for the next little bit. I'm trying to figure out what kinds of things I want to focus on in the next little bit, some different topics and some of the same. If you have any suggestions for things you would like to see, or would like for me to continue with, shout it all out!
